Tomato Prices Decline To Rs 20/Kg In Karnataka Amid Improved Supply

In a major relief, the prices of tomatoes have finally declined in some parts of Karnataka to about Rs 20 per kg amid significant improvement in supply, according to officials on Monday. Till a few days back, the prices of tomatoes were hovering near Rs 140 per kg.

Meanwhile, BBdaily in Delhi-NCR region is quoting Rs 30 for 500 grams of local tomato. Hybrid tomatoes are selling at Rs 59.50 per kg on BBdaily.

In the Mysuru APMC (Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee) yard, for instance, tomato prices fell to Rs 14 per kg on Sunday.
"Last week, the average price of tomatoes was Rs 18 to Rs 20 per kg as the supply has improved," Mysuru APMC Secretary M R Kumaraswamy told PTI over telephone when contacted.

As per market sources, supply of the essential commodity witnessed improvement by two to three times compared to last month leading to sharp dip in their prices.

According to a PTI report, "The highest price of tomatoes at the wholesale rate at Mysuru APMC was Rs 140 per kg last month," Kumaraswamy said.

Retail prices of tomatoes are now ruling around Rs 30 in the State, he added.
