As per an order notified on December 31, the behemoth Indian Railways has announced hike in train ticket fare across its network that excludes suburban trains. For ordinary non-AC train coach, fares have been increased by 1 paise for every kilometer of train travel.
In mail or express non-AC trains, the fare has been hiked by 2 paise per kilometer while in the case of AC classes the hike would be of 4 paise per km. The fare hike also applies to premium trains including Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi.
Say as in the case of Delhi-Kolkata Rajdhani that covers 1447km, the hike by 4 paise per km would mean increase in train ticket price by Rs. 58.
Further, as per the order the new hiked fare shall not apply to train tickets that have already been booked plus reservation fee as well as superfast charges have been maintained as though.
