United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump has called for the immediate resignation of Intel's CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, citing what he describes as serious conflicts of interest due to Tan's connections to China. Trump made the demand in a strongly worded post on Truth Social, his social media platform.
President Trump Demands Immediate Resignation of Intel CEO
President Trump wrote, "The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!" The post triggered immediate reactions from investors, causing Intel's stock to drop sharply in premarket trading.

Intel Share Price Today: Stock Reaction on Trump's Post
According to the data available on the Nasdaq website, Intel Corporation's stock was trading lower on August 7 in pre-market hours. The share price stood at $19.86, reflecting a decline of $0.55, or approximately 2.69%, compared to the previous closing price.
Why Donald Trump Wants Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan's Resignation?
Trump's call for Tan's resignation comes amid intensifying scrutiny from Republican lawmakers regarding national security and technology supply chains. Just a day before Trump's post, Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who serves as chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, sent a formal letter to Intel's board of directors expressing deep concern over Lip-Bu Tan's connections to Chinese technology firms and his past investments in the Chinese semiconductor industry.
The letter pointed out that several of these companies are reportedly linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and, in some cases, the Chinese military. Senator Cotton warned that these associations could compromise Intel's role as a recipient of U.S. taxpayer dollars through federal programs.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan's Links With China?
Specifically, Senator Cotton raised questions about Intel's ability to act as a trustworthy and secure steward of the $8 billion in federal funding it received under the CHIPS and Science Act-a key U.S. initiative designed to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains, especially China.
He emphasised that Lip-Bu Tan's prior business ties in China may pose a risk to national security and could undermine public trust in the allocation of government funds. In his letter, Cotton stated, "Tan's associations raise questions about Intel's ability to fulfill these obligations as a responsible steward of American taxpayer dollars and to follow security regulations."
