Iran ceasefire on life support, Trump says, after rejecting Tehran peace proposal

US President Donald Trump says the ceasefire with Iran is at its weakest and on "massive life support" after he rejected Tehran’s proposal to end the months-long war. He said he expects a complete victory, as the conflict continues to disrupt a key global oil shipping route and worsen fuel shortages.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the ceasefire with Iran was close to failing. Trump described it as fragile during remarks to reporters in the Oval Office. The comments came a day after Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to end the conflict. The war began on February 28 and disrupted major oil movements.

In the same exchange, Trump said the ceasefire had little strength left. "It is at its weakest… After reading that piece of garbage they sent us... Its on life support, massive life support,\" Trump told reporters. Trump also dismissed suggestions of political pressure. \"They think that Ill get tired of this, or Ill get bored, or Ill have some pressure, but theres no pressure, theres no pressure at all. Were going to have a complete victory,\" Trump said.

Trump Iran ceasefire remarks after proposal rejection

Trump received the Iranian proposal on Sunday as expectations rose for a possible breakthrough. The plan aimed to end the months-long war with Iran. Trump later posted a response on Truth Social. \"I have just read the response from Irans so-calledRepresentatives. I dont like it,\" Trump wrote. Trump also described the proposal as \"totally unacceptable.\"

Fighting linked to the US and Israel began on February 28, according to the timeline given. Attacks were paused on April 8, when both sides agreed to a ceasefire. Since then, talks continued but did not secure a permanent end. Trump’s latest remarks suggested the pause in fighting remained uncertain.

Trump Iran ceasefire talks focus on uranium enrichment and sanctions

The US has been demanding a clear Iranian commitment to stop uranium enrichment. In return, the US would lift sanctions and release billions in frozen Iranian funds. The negotiations were framed as a path to end hostilities for good. However, the talks have not produced a lasting agreement so far.

Trump Iran ceasefire linked to Strait of Hormuz oil route blockage

The war also blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a key sea route for global oil supplies. The disruption affected about one-fifth of global crude movements. Several countries reported fuel shortages during the blockade. Negotiators have also discussed lifting restrictions tied to the strait as part of any deal.

With attacks paused since April 8, the ceasefire remained central to efforts to stop the conflict. Trump’s rejection of Iran’s proposal on Sunday increased doubts about progress. The US position continued to centre on uranium enrichment, sanctions relief, and frozen funds. The Strait of Hormuz blockade stayed a key issue in the talks.
