Strait of Hormuz reopening planned after Trump says Iran war deal to be signed Sunday
US President Donald Trump said a deal to end the war with Iran would be signed on Sunday and that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen to all immediately after. He contrasted the plan with the 2015 JCPOA and said Iran would not obtain a nuclear weapon, adding that remaining nuclear material would be addressed later.
US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that an agreement to end the war with Iran will be signed on Sunday. Trump added that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen to all ships straight after signing. The statement came in a post on Truth Social. Trump presented the deal as a major shift in the conflict.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office earlier said the United States and Iran were nearing the end of talks. It stated that both sides were in the final stage of negotiations. It also said an electronic signing ceremony for the agreement was planned for Sunday. The comments signalled that a formal step was close.
Trump Iran deal and Strait of Hormuz reopening
Trump wrote: "The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,\". The post suggested the reopening would be immediate. The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global energy shipments. Any change there can affect trade and prices.
Trump Iran deal and JCPOA comparison
Trump compared the proposed deal with the 2015 nuclear agreement under former president Barack Obama. Trump wrote: \"Barack Hussein Obamas Deal with Iran, the JCPOA, was an easy, beautiful, smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon, which Iran would have had six years ago, and would have used long before now.\"
Trump added: \"My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON! In fact, they no longer want a Nuclear Weapon, nor will they have one, either through purchase, development, or any other form of procurement,\". Trump framed the approach as blocking any path to a nuclear weapon. The post did not share further terms.
Trump Iran deal and nuclear material disposal plan
Trump also claimed Iran’s nuclear programme had been effectively neutralised. Trump said any remaining nuclear material would be handled later. Trump wrote: \"At the appropriate time, when all is calm, we will go in and get the Nuclear Dust, buried deep under the powerful sunken granite mountains, thanks to our beautiful B-2 Bombers and their brilliant pilots, and downblend and destroy it, whether in Iran, or the United States,\".
The expected Sunday signing and the planned Strait of Hormuz reopening were presented as linked steps. Pakistan’s Foreign Office had also pointed to Sunday for the electronic ceremony. Trump’s statements focused on stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. No additional verification or details of the agreement were provided in the remarks.
