Uday Kotak Announces Resignation As Kotak Mahindra Bank MD

Uday Kotak, the founder and Managing Director of Kotak Mahindra Bank, has announced his decision to step down from his role.

Kotak stated in his final letter to shareholders as managing director on Saturday that the bank's future success will be aided by the alignment and commitment of its shareholders, board, and management.

"Going forward, I see my role as a non-executive board governance member and a strategic shareholder with a long term perspective of nurturing a world class institution," Kotak wrote in his letter.

The billionaire's employment as managing director of Kotak Mahindra Bank is set to expire in December of this year. This decision was made after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) set the terms of bank CEOs at 15 years and 12 years, respectively, for promoter CEOs. The bank's corporate banking head KVS Manian and retail banking head Shanti Ekambaram are thought to be in competition for the position, despite the fact that the firm has appointed Egon Zehnder to manage a global search for a chief executive officer.

Uday Kotak graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College in Mumbai and a Master of Management Studies degree from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.

After completing his studies, Uday Kotak joined the cotton trading family business, although he had a stronger preference for the financial services industry. With an initial investment of Rs 10,000, he launched a bill discounting company in 1985, which ultimately evolved into Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd.

He founded the Kotak Mahindra Bank in 2003, which has grown to be one of the top private banks in the nation.
