Uday Kotak Lauds Rahul Bajaj for Boldly Speaking Truth to Power

Finance industry stalwart Uday Kotak, on Monday, highlighted a pervasive culture of reticence among businessmen to voice their true opinions in the presence of authority figures. His comments came during the unveiling of "Hamara Rahul," a book celebrating the life and legacy of Rahul Bajaj, the former chairman emeritus of the Bajaj Group. Kotak praised Bajaj's exceptional courage in expressing his views candidly, a quality he observed is rare in the business world.

Kotak Praises Bajajs Courage

Kotak, the founder of Kotak Mahindra Bank, shared anecdotes demonstrating Bajaj's willingness to speak truth to power. Notably, at an award ceremony attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Bajaj openly discussed the atmosphere of fear among businessmen regarding free speech. "He spoke what no one had the courage to speak but which everyone had it in their minds," Kotak remarked, lauding Bajaj as an iconic figure in Indian industry for his fearless stance.

Further tributes to Bajaj's character and contributions came from various quarters. Pheroza Godrej, founder of Cymroza Art Gallery, commended Bajaj's dedication to heritage conservation, particularly his efforts towards the Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, in a video message, described Bajaj as "courageous and honest," praising his integrity and open-mindedness.

The event also touched on broader themes of governance and policy. Ajit Gulabchand, chairman and managing director of HCC, expressed optimism about India's reform trajectory under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He confidently stated that reforms would remain unaffected by coalition government dynamics, attributing this resilience to Modi's leadership. Gulabchand also applauded the recent portfolio allocations within the Union Cabinet, signaling approval for the direction of the third term of Modi's administration.

The collective reflections at the book launch painted a picture of Rahul Bajaj as not just a business leader but as a figure of moral courage and conviction. His legacy, as celebrated by peers and contemporaries, underscores the importance of forthrightness and integrity in both business and governance.
