UN Secretary-General Urges India And Pakistan For Peaceful Resolution After Pahalgam Attack

Following the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the tragic loss of 26 lives on April 22, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, reached out to Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In his communications on Tuesday, April 29, he emphasized the urgency of de-escalation and advocated for a peaceful resolution to the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Guterres' call for maximum restraint highlights the international community's concern over the potential for an escalated conflict.

In addition to Guterres, Philemon Yang, the President of the 79th UN General Assembly, also expressed his concern over the escalating violence. Sharif emphasized the need for a transparent and neutral investigation into the Pahalgam incident. His response signifies Pakistan's rejection of the allegations and its call for a fair inquiry.
