As per sources from the finance ministry, the Union Budget for 2020-2021 is likely to be announced on February 1 and the Economic Survey will be presented a day before i.e. on January 31, 2020. After 2015-16, this will be the first time when the budget will be put forth on a Saturday.

On Friday, Prahlad Joshi parliamentary affairs minister said "tradition will continue", on being asked whether the government will continue with its tradition of presenting the budget on the first day of February as this time around it is a Saturday on that day, a non-working day.
In its first tenure, the Modi government took a decision to announce the budget on the first day of February instead of the last working day of the same month. And in line, the Union Budget for the year 2017-18 was announced on February 1 and ever since then the tradition continues. The measure was taken such that after the presentation of budget on February 1, all of the budgetary process is completed by the end of March 31. And beginning the new financial year, expenditure exercise for twelve months may be resumed.
