To mark the final step in the Union Budget preparation process this year in order to observe healthy protocols amid the Covid scare, the customary Halwa Ceremony was not observed and in its place sweets were distributed among the core staff.
What is the Halwa Ceremony?
The Halwa ceremony ahead of the budget is a celebratory event in which the Finance Minister stirs the dessert in the conventional utensil-Kadhai and follows up the event by serving the same to the team. The event is held generally at the Finance Ministry headquarters in the North Block basement in the Secretariat Building in New Delhi.
The custom sets the stage for another important event thereafter wherein till the budget presentation all of the staff and team involved in the making of the Budget isolate themselves in order to maintain a high level of secrecy in respect of the document.
