EV powertrain plant: Uno Minda to invest INR 550 crore in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility

Uno Minda said it will build a new greenfield plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, earlier Aurangabad. The unit will make electric four-wheeler powertrain systems. The company put the planned investment at Rs 550 crore. Uno Minda said the facility will come up through Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited.

The company said its board already approved the project. Uno Minda added the plant is expected to be commissioned by the second quarter of FY28. The company also said the total outlay will be funded using a mix of debt and equity. Capital spending will be spread over the next two years.

Uno Minda said the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility will focus on high-voltage electric powertrain products. These parts will be meant for four-wheeler passenger vehicles. The company said the plant will assemble and manufacture electric drive units EDU. It will also build dedicated hybrid transmission DHT systems.

Uno Minda said the expansion is supported by new orders for EDU and DHT systems. The company described the buyer as a key anchor customer. Uno Minda did not disclose the identity of the customer. The company linked the new plant plan to these confirmed demand signals.

Uno Minda EV powertrain plant in Maharashtra: second facility and Pune site

The company said this is the second EV powertrain plant announced by UMAIPL in quick succession. Uno Minda said work is already under way at Khed City, Pune. That facility is slated to start operations in the second half of the current fiscal. The company did not share a revised timeline for that site.

Uno Minda said the planned Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar project will involve Rs 550 crore in estimated investment. The company said the funding will combine debt and equity. Uno Minda also said the capital expenditure will be phased over the next two years. The plant is expected to be commissioned by the second quarter of FY28.
