The Uttar Pradesh government has approved an interim hike of around 21% in minimum wages for workers in key industrial hubs such as Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad, with the revised rates coming into effect from April 1, 2026. The move comes after days of protests in Noida, where workers demanded better pay and improved working conditions.

Officials stated that the revised wage structure was finalised after consultations with both workers and employers and was cleared by a high-powered committee. The decision also received approval from Yogi Adityanath.

New Minimum Wages in Uttar Pradesh: Region-Wise Breakdown
Under the updated structure, workers in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad will see the most significant increase. Monthly wages for unskilled workers have been raised from Rs 11,313 to Rs 13,690. Semi-skilled workers will now earn Rs 15,059 per month, while skilled workers' wages have been fixed at Rs 16,868.
In other municipal corporation areas across Uttar Pradesh, unskilled workers will receive Rs 13,006 per month. Semi-skilled workers in these regions will earn Rs 14,306, while skilled workers will be paid Rs 16,025.
For districts outside municipal corporation limits, the revised pay scale sets unskilled workers' wages at Rs 12,356 per month. Semi-skilled workers will earn Rs 13,591, while skilled workers will receive Rs 15,224.
The key changes are as follows:
Unskilled workers: Increased from Rs 11,313 to Rs 13,690 per month
Semi-skilled workers: Revised to Rs 15,059 per month
Skilled workers: Fixed at Rs 16,868 per month
Noida Wage Hike Protest
The wage hike follows widespread unrest across industrial areas in Noida and Greater Noida. Reports suggest that around 40,000 to 45,000 workers gathered across multiple locations, including Sector 62, Phase-2, Sector 63, Sector 60 and Sector 84, raising concerns over wages, overtime and workplace conditions.
Tensions escalated in some areas, leading to clashes and prompting authorities to intervene. In response, the state government set up a committee to hold discussions with stakeholders and recommend a balanced wage revision.
More Changes Likely as Wage Board to Be Set Up
The current hike is being treated as an interim measure. The government is expected to undertake a more detailed revision once a formal wage board is established. This panel will review wage structures in depth and submit recommendations for final fixation.
Officials also indicated that further revisions linked to inflation and indexation are under consideration, suggesting that wage adjustments may continue in the coming months.
CM Yogi Adityanath Issues Directions to Employers
Alongside the wage increase, Yogi Adityanath has directed employers to ensure timely salary payments, proper overtime compensation, and weekly offs for workers. Instructions have also been issued regarding bonuses, social security coverage and maintaining safe working environments.
Special emphasis has been placed on ensuring the safety of female workers, both within industrial units and in surrounding areas.
Fake Claims on Rs 20,000 Minimum Wage in UP
Authorities have also cautioned against misinformation circulating on social media regarding a uniform minimum wage of Rs 20,000 per month in Uttar Pradesh. Officials clarified that no such order has been issued and termed such claims as misleading.
They added that discussions around a national "floor wage" are still ongoing at the central level, and no final decision has been implemented yet.
