US-Nepal partnership talks as envoy Sergio Gor ends Nepal visit on technology and trade

US special envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor concluded a three-day visit to Nepal after meetings with senior political leaders and ministers, and discussions with business representatives. The visit highlighted the US-Nepal partnership, commercial ties, and US opportunities in Nepal’s technology sector. Gor also visited Everest Base Camp to review drone technology and cleanup plans.

Sergio Gor, US President Donald Trumps special envoy for South and Central Asia, ended a three-day visit to Nepal on Saturday. The trip included meetings with senior leaders and talks with business figures. The US Embassy in Kathmandu said the visit aimed to deepen the US-Nepal partnership and widen commercial links.

US envoy Gor ends Nepal visit

According to the US Embassy, Kathmandu, the visit centred on trade and technology ties. It also looked at new US business opportunities in Nepals technology sector. Gor met Nepali business leaders as part of the official programme. The embassy described the discussions as productive.

US-Nepal partnership and technology sector talks

During the visit, Gor held high-level meetings with the chairman of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane. Gor also met Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle. The meetings formed part of efforts to expand cooperation and support closer commercial engagement.

"The United States leads in innovation, and we are glad to partner with local Nepali companies to bring cutting-edge technology to Nepal,\" said Gor, who concluded his highly productive visit to Nepal. Gor also said, \"We are hopeful that Nepals new government will work to increase the fruitful partnership between our two nations,\" according to a press release issued by the US Embassy, Kathmandu.

US-Nepal partnership and Everest Base Camp drone technology

Gor travelled to Everest Base Camp for a briefing on American commercial drone technology. The briefing also covered plans by Nepali organisations leading the Everest cleanup campaign, the embassy said. The press release added that the drone system could speed up deliveries on the mountain.

The new drone technology will enable deliveries on Mount Everest in a few minutes, in contrast to multiple-day treks in the past, according to the press release. The embassy statement linked this to wider commercial cooperation. It also noted interest in applying technology solutions in difficult terrain.

US-Nepal partnership and return of religious items

Gor attended a ceremony in Kathmandu marking the return of the statue of the Akshobhya Buddha from the United States. The event took place at Nhu: Chhen Baha, the embassy said. The statement added, The US remains committed to returning wrongfully taken religious items back to Nepal.

As part of the visit, Gor also toured Bhaktapur Durbar Square. The embassy said the stop offered a view of Nepals history and culture. Officials described the trip as covering politics, business, technology, and heritage, while keeping focus on strengthening the US-Nepal partnership.
