President Trump highlights trade agreements with India and China, mentioning significant progress and ongoing negotiations for mutually beneficial deals.
US President Donald Trump recently highlighted that not all countries will secure trade agreements, though significant progress has been made with India and China. Speaking at the Big Beautiful Bill event, Trump mentioned a "very big" potential trade deal with India following a recent agreement with China.

Trump stated, "Everybody wants to make a deal and have a part of it. Remember a few months ago, the press was saying, 'You really have anybody of any interest? Well, we just signed with China yesterday. We are having some great deals. We have one coming up, maybe with India. Very big one. Where we're going to open up India, in the China deal, we are starting to open up China."
Trade Agreements and Global Relations
The President emphasised that deals won't be made with every nation. He said some countries might only receive letters stating tariffs of 25%, 35%, or 45%. He added that his team prefers making more deals than he would personally choose.
Earlier this month, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick expressed optimism about an impending trade agreement between the US and India. He noted both nations had found common ground beneficial for their interests.
Lutnick remarked, "I think to be in a very, very good place, and you should expect a deal between the United States and India in the not-too-distant future because I think we found a place that really works for both countries." When asked if he was hopeful about the outcome, Lutnick said he was "very optimistic," and added, "It could be sort of the way I come across," he said.
Progress on US-India Trade Deal
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed ongoing negotiations for a fair trade agreement between India and the US. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump agreed on a mutually beneficial bilateral trade pact during their February 2025 meeting.
Piyush Goyal commented on the strategic partnership between both nations: "PM Narendra Modi and US President Trump met in February 2025...Both our leaders have decided to enter into a bilateral trade agreement which will be mutually beneficial for both the economies, businesses on both sides and the people of both countries. We are negotiating to make a nice, fair, equitable and balanced agreement to promote business."
China-US Trade Developments
The recent US-China trade agreement revived terms initially settled in Geneva last month after tensions nearly halted bilateral trade. This truce provided temporary relief to global markets affected by tariff hikes.
Trump announced on Truth Social that the deal with China was complete. He confirmed that export restrictions would ease as per the Geneva framework. The agreement ensures China supplies essential rare earths upfront.
The President's remarks underline ongoing efforts to strengthen international relations through strategic trade partnerships while maintaining selectivity in agreements.
