A US industry delegation met Union minister Jitendra Singh on Monday to review private investment options in India’s nuclear sector. The talks also covered industry tie-ups and wider India-US work in clean energy. Officials discussed India’s Nuclear Energy Mission and recent reforms that allow more private sector involvement, including foreign participation.

Singh said India planned a phased expansion of nuclear generation capacity until 2047. The target was to lift capacity from 8.8 GW to 100 GW by 2047. The discussions also looked at how US firms could engage with Indian partners as the programme scales up.
India nuclear sector reforms and private investment
Singh highlighted the SHANTI Act, 2025, describing it as a key reform for the nuclear energy sector. The minister said the law aimed to make entry easier for private companies, including those from overseas. The reform was expected to support investment and industrial collaboration linked to India’s Nuclear Energy Mission.
According to Singh, policy changes were intended to create an enabling setting for manufacturing partnerships and technology cooperation. The minister said the growing programme also opened options for supply chain integration. Singh added that advanced research was another area where global partners could work with India.

The delegation included representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute NEI and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum USISPF. It also brought together senior figures from the US nuclear industry. Business stakeholders and officials linked to India-US civil nuclear energy and advanced technologies were also part of the group.
The interaction placed focus on emerging opportunities from India’s expanding nuclear energy programme.
