US-Iran peace deal reached, signing set for 19 June in Switzerland, says Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says a US-Iran peace deal has been reached and will be signed in Switzerland on 19 June. He said both sides agreed to an immediate, permanent end to military operations, including in Lebanon. Sharif thanked Qatar for mediation, and Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for support.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the US and Iran have agreed on a peace deal. Sharif stated it would be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19. Sharif also said both sides had announced an immediate and permanent end to military actions. The statement included an end to operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

US-Iran deal signing set in June

Sharif shared the announcement in a post on X in the early hours of Monday. Sharif wrote: "Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED.\" Sharif also said a signing ceremony was planned for Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.

US-Iran peace deal details

Sharif said the agreement included halting fighting across all areas. Sharif said the end of military operations would be immediate and permanent. Sharif also mentioned Lebanon while listing the fronts covered by the halt. Sharif’s post indicated the deal followed a period of intensive talks between the two sides.

Sharif said mediators would support further talks before the deal is implemented. Sharif said a series of meetings would take place this week. Sharif added these pre-implementation discussions would prepare for technical talks. Sharif also linked the talks to preparations for the official signing ceremony in Switzerland.

US-Iran peace deal mediation

Sharif thanked the US and Iran for choosing diplomacy to address the conflict. Sharif also praised the mediators involved in the process. Sharif said: \"He also extended sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement.\"

Sharif also credited other countries for support during the mediation. Sharif said: \"I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard,\" Sharif added. The post outlined these roles while describing how the agreement was reached.

Sharif tagged key leaders in the X post about the peace deal. The tagged names were US President Donald Trump and Vice President J D Vance. Sharif also tagged Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The tags appeared alongside details on the planned signing date and location.

Pakistan has taken on a central role in contacts between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan has helped facilitate communication during the US-Iran negotiations. Pakistan has also hosted diplomatic efforts focused on ending the conflict. Sharif’s announcement placed these actions within the wider mediation that led to the planned signing in Switzerland.
