US Stocks On December 24:
Dow Jones: The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) index surged by as much as 390.08 points or 0.91% to end at 43,297.03, close to its intraday high of 43,297.65.
S&P 500: The benchmark rallied to hit an intraday high of 6,040.10, before closing at 6,040.04 higher by 65.97 points or 1.10%.
Nasdaq Composite: The tech-heavy index closed at 20,031.13, higher by 266.24 points or 1.35%. The benchmark is also near its day's high of 20,031.13.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index flirted around 108.1 against a basket of currencies, which was near its two-year peak of 108.4 that was recorded last week. However, the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note saw gradual momentum to close near its seven-month high of 4.59% on Tuesday.
According to Trading Economics, US stocks rallied on a shortened trading day for Christmas Eve, with the S&P 500 gaining 1.1% and the Dow Jones adding 390 points, marking its best performance on the holiday since 2022. The Nasdaq 100 led the rally, rising 1.3%, its strongest Christmas Eve performance since 2000. Tech stocks were a key driver of the gains, with Tesla soaring 7.3%, Amazon up 1.8%, Apple rising 1.1%, and Broadcom jumping 3%.
The Trading Economics data added that this follows strong performances on Friday and Monday, propelling major indexes closer to their record highs after a recent dip prompted by concerns over the Federal Reserve's actions. Wall Street is now focused on the outlook for interest rates, with most expecting the Fed to keep rates steady in January and March. US stock indices are on track for a strong year, with the Nasdaq 100, S&P 500, and Dow Jones all set to post gains between 15% and 30%, driven by a rally in chipmakers amid growing optimism about AI demand.
