US President Trump visits Walter Reed Medical Centre for a health examination amidst concerns over swelling and bruising. Despite a recent diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, he asserts he is in excellent health, underscoring the importance of regular health check-ups for older adults.
US President Donald Trump is set to have a physical examination at Walter Reed Medical Center. This comes amid concerns about his health, highlighted by recent swelling and bruising. Despite these issues, the White House maintains that he is in excellent health.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump will visit Walter Reed on Friday morning for a scheduled meeting with troops. During this visit, he will also undergo his routine annual check-up.

Health Concerns and Examinations
The 79-year-old president had an annual exam just six months ago, on April 11. Since then, he has been seen with swollen ankles and a persistent bruise on his right hand. In July, the White House disclosed that Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency.
This vein condition causes difficulty in blood flow from the legs back to the heart due to damaged valves. Trump's doctor explained that this is common among individuals over 70 years old.
Medical Findings and Statements
A memo from White House physician Sean Barbabella confirmed no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. Additionally, there were no signs of heart failure, renal impairment, or systemic illness identified.
The bruising on Trump's hand has been attributed to "minor soft tissue irritation" from frequent hand-shaking. It is also a side effect of aspirin therapy taken for cardiovascular prevention.
Public Perception and Political Impact
Trump has consistently claimed to be in good health despite these concerns. In a recent interview with Newsmax, he stated, "I feel the same or better than I did 30 years ago." Meanwhile, Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 election due to concerns about his mental acuity.
Regular health check-ups are crucial, especially for older adults like Trump. Visible symptoms may not always indicate serious health issues but can impact public perception and political credibility significantly.
The White House described Trump's upcoming visit as part of his regular yearly physical routine. However, it is noteworthy that he had an annual exam just six months prior.
Trump's ankle swelling is related to chronic venous insufficiency. This condition affects about one in 20 adults according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Despite these health issues, Trump remains active in politics and plans to visit the Middle East shortly after his medical examination at Walter Reed Medical Center.
