US Stock Market Outlook For Friday, Oct-16: Will Dow Jones, Nasdaq, S&P 500 Extend Rally? Futures Trade Mixed
The US stock market witnessed a strong buying trend overnight, especially in the Dow Jones, which skyrocketed by nearly 629 points before correcting mildly. On Friday, in the early hours, US stock futures have gained momentum as focus shifted towards the outlook for artificial intelligence and related tech companies. Also, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 are on path to record 1% weekly gains, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq is expected to outperform with 2% weekly gains. However, Friday's performance will make it or break this week's performance.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average or DJIA index skyrocketed by 629 points to hit an intraday high of 52,250.18 before correcting to end at 52,177.69, up by 556.21 points or 1.08%. While the S&P 500 index gained by 20.16 points to end at 26,713.02. Also, the S&P 500 index surged 25.12 points or 0.33% to end at 7,744.06.
The gains came as selling pressure on chip stocks eased after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang defended the financial position of AI computing provider CoreWeave Inc. Companies such as CoreWeave have taken on substantial debt with backing from suppliers, including Nvidia, raising concerns that circular financing arrangements could be generating artificial demand. Meanwhile, Anthropic reportedly told investors that its third-quarter revenue stood at $16.8 billion. For the week, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was on track to fall more than 2%, while the S&P 500 was down nearly 1%. The Dow was poised to post a weekly gain of around 1%, as per Trading Economics.
US Stock Market Outlook For Friday, October 16, 2026:
In the early trade, the Dow Jones futures gained by 35 points to trade around 52,465 after the rally in the index on Wall Street. However, Nasdaq 100 futures dropped by 60 points to 30,084, while S&P 500 futures slipped mildly to trade around 7,788.50.
As per Daniel Munday, Principal Analyst, VT Markets, hotter US CPI revived Fed hike bets, then cautious Fed comments pulled them back. At the same time, AI financing worries hit US tech, with CoreWeave and Oracle sold off on debt fears. Asia took the hit, and the KOSPI closed down 7.57%, its seventh straight loss, with foreign investors heavy sellers.
Overnight, he added, the US yields and the dollar eased as a Bloomberg report suggested China holds more US debt than official data show, and as investors sought safety. That helps, and bounces are possible after such a fast fall, but chip heavy markets such as Korea, Taiwan and Japan stay exposed, so volatility is likely until AI and rate worries settle.
"Key risks are the October 28 Fed meeting, more hot inflation data, oil and Middle East tensions, and whether AI spending can be funded," Munday said.
"Global market cues remain mixed amid concerns over elevated US inflation, interest-rate expectations and volatility in AI-linked stocks, while investors continue to assess overnight Wall Street performance and trends across Asian markets," said Hitesh Tailor, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Broking.
Investors will focus on New York Fed Services Business Activity, Import Price Index, Export Price Index, Industrial Production, Manufacturing Production, Capacity Utilization, and Treasury International Capital Flows data on Friday. In case of quarterly earnings, companies like Citizens Financial Group Inc. (CFG), M&T Bank Corp. (MTB), Regions Financial Corp. (RF), Truist Financial Corp. (TFC), and Travelers Companies Inc. (TRV) will be in focus.
