Jeet Adani Advocates for Embracing Technology While Guarding Against Misuse in India

India must actively participate in the global technological race, according to Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. Speaking at IIT Bombay's Techfest 2024, Adani emphasised the need for India to develop capabilities that will keep it competitive while remaining cautious of technology misuse. He stated, "India cannot stay out of this global race."

Jeet Adani on Technology and Vigilance

Technological Advancements and Responsibilities

Adani highlighted the dual nature of technology, describing it as both thrilling and daunting. He stressed that ignoring or slowing down technological adoption is not an option for India or its citizens. The younger son of Gautam Adani remarked on the importance of building capabilities to lead India into a new technological era, aiming for a USD 26-trillion economy by 2047.

While acknowledging technology's role in human progress, Adani warned against its misuse in areas like fake news and cyber-crimes. He noted that as technology's scope expands, it's crucial to ensure its positive applications aren't overshadowed by harmful ones. "Technology is only as good as the benefit it provides," he said.

Harnessing Technology for Good

Adani urged reflection on how to harness technology's vast potential for good as we enter an AI-driven world. He praised Google's quantum computing chip, Willow, for its potential in drug discovery and climate change but cautioned about the responsibility accompanying such power. "What you do with that kind of power is a choice," he added.

Encouraging students to align their technological pursuits with societal goals, Adani called on the next generation to drive progress responsibly. He highlighted India's initiatives like UPI and Digital India, which have made financial services accessible to millions, noting India's 180 billion cashless transactions annually surpass those of advanced economies.

Technology's Role in Economic Growth

Adani stated that leveraging technology is vital not only for economic growth but also for tackling challenges in healthcare, education, and governance. At the Adani Group, simulation-based training enhances workplace safety at ports. Innovations like DigiYatra and eGates improve passenger experiences at airports managed by Adani.

In Gujarat's Kutch desert, the conglomerate is creating the world's largest clean energy project using advanced technologies. "At Khavda Gujarat, we're adding 25 MW of clean energy every single day," he said. This project mirrors the scale of their previous Kamuthi solar plant milestone monthly.

As India aims for a USD 26-trillion economy by 2047, Adani underscored the importance of purpose-driven technology in shaping a future beneficial for all.
