GeM procurement review: Uttar Pradesh reports Rs 22,337 crore purchases in 2025-26

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday reviewed procurement through the Government e-Marketplace GeM portal for the financial year 2025-26. The CM praised the state’s approach for improving openness and speed in public buying. An official statement said the review focused on outcomes under the GeM Procurement Policy 2024.

Officials told the CM that Uttar Pradesh ranked first in GeM procurement in 2025-26. The state made purchases worth Rs 22,337 crore on the portal. They also reported total business secured by Uttar Pradesh buyers at Rs 42,648 crore. The review highlighted both spending levels and broader transaction activity.

Government e-Marketplace GeM procurement numbers in 2025-26

Officials said the platform’s reverse auction process cut costs by over Rs 9,700 crore. They linked the savings to price discovery through competitive bidding. The statement also noted a sharp fall in procurement-related complaints. Officials said grievances dropped by over 80 per cent due to the system’s transparent design.

The share of micro and small enterprises in purchases increased to 55 per cent from 43 per cent. Officials said state-based MSMEs played a major role in this rise. The review also tracked wider inclusion in participation. It recorded gains among women entrepreneurs at 44 per cent, SC/ST entrepreneurs at 48 per cent, and startups at 50 per cent.

Government e-Marketplace GeM Procurement Policy 2024 and oversight

During the review, the CM said the GeM Procurement Policy 2024 improved integrity, inclusion and accountability in government buying. The official statement said the Centre has appreciated the policy. It added that the approach has been presented as a model for other states to follow.

The chief minister asked departments to ensure the GeM portal is used in a mandatory manner. Yogi Adityanath also called for linking the portal with the state treasury. The CM further directed officials to set up a permanent procurement committee. The measures aim to make purchasing smoother within existing rules.
