Uttarakhand's GSDP Increases by 1.3 Times Over Two Years, Chief Minister Dhami Reports

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a 1.3-fold increase in the state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) over the past two years. Speaking at the Skill Development and Employment Conclave at Doon University, he outlined plans to double the GSDP within five years. The conclave aims to unlock new opportunities in skill development, empowering youth and encouraging self-reliance.

Uttarakhand GSDP Grows 1.3 Times in Two Years

The state's unemployment rate has decreased by 4.4% in a year, according to Dhami. Uttarakhand holds the top position in Niti Aayog's Sustainable Development Goals ranking. "In the next five years, apart from doubling the GSDP of the state, we will also do remarkable work in skill development and employment generation," Dhami stated.

Skill Development Initiatives

India's demographic advantage is significant, with 65% of its population under 35 years old. Dhami emphasised that channeling this energy properly can transform India into an economic superpower and build a prosperous society. This vision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Skill India campaign launched in 2015.

The Skill India initiative aims to provide high-quality, relevant training to youth based on their interests and abilities. This campaign not only boosts employment opportunities but also contributes significantly to creating a self-reliant India. The state government, with central support, prioritises youth empowerment through various schemes and policies.

Employment Opportunities

Entrepreneurship is being promoted through the Chief Minister's Self-Employment Scheme. An agreement with Ashok Leyland will offer internships and jobs to 1,000 youths annually at its plant. "The chief minister said with the guidance and cooperation of the Centre, the state government is also continuously working in this regard with full commitment, giving priority to the youth power in the state."

The conclave is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing skill development among young people. It aims to inspire them towards self-reliance by aligning their skills with market demands. The state government remains committed to fostering an environment where youth can thrive and contribute to economic growth.

Uttarakhand's focus on skill development and employment generation reflects its dedication to harnessing youthful potential for economic progress. By implementing strategic initiatives and partnerships, the state aims to create a robust framework for sustainable growth and prosperity.
