Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductors Limited Appoints Industry Veteran Mike Young To Lead Chip Manufacturing Venture

Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductors Limited (VFSL) said on Thursday that it has chosen industry veteran Mike Young to lead its planned chip manufacturing venture in India. Young has been named Senior Vice President, Project Management Office and Manufacturing Operations. Young, who has 34 years of experience in front-end semiconductor manufacturing, will be responsible for the execution of manufacturing and operational operations at VFSL.

"Mike Young brings with him 34 years of extensive experience ... across multiple geographies with significant contribution to two high-volume startups. We are delighted to welcome him to Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductors Limited. He will play a critical role in establishing best-in-class semiconductor manufacturing processes and operations," said David Reed, CEO, VFSL.

Mike took a brief break after serving as CEO of Singapore's Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Company (SSMC) before joining Vedanta. Prior to joining SSMC, he was the CEO of X-FAB Sarawak in Malaysia.
His previous positions included those at X-FAB UK, STMicroelectronics, Siemens, Atmel, and Plessey Semiconductors. He is skilled at managing high-performing facilities by implementing governance and control mechanisms, driving continuous improvement, managing expenses, and improving operational performance.
Mike obtained a master's degree in Microelectronics Engineering from Middlesex University in the United Kingdom, complemented by a bachelor's degree in Physics from Aston University, also located in the United Kingdom.
"The global semiconductor industry is projected to reach $1 trillion in the coming decade, and India is at the cusp of becoming a major semiconductor player," said Mike Young.
"I am excited about this opportunity to work for a joint venture between two leading industry players, namely Vedanta and Foxconn, and look forward to creating a global impact with the India semiconductor fab."
Vedanta has been on a global talent acquisition effort to attract semiconductor industry professionals. VFSL, a joint venture between Foxconn and Vedanta Group, plans to build a cutting-edge semiconductor fab in India.
In February, VFSL announced the appointment of Reed as its CEO, further strengthening the leadership team. In April, Lawrence (Wong Chee Yoong) assumed the role of Senior Director of Human Resources, bringing valuable expertise to the organization. Additionally, Terry Daly, an experienced IBM veteran, has recently joined the startup as an advisor, contributing his wealth of knowledge to the team.
