Vedanta Ltd Declares Interim Dividend Of Rs 5/Share, Fixes Record Date; Buy This Metal Stock Ahead Of Q2?

Vedanta Ltd, the metal giant, is back with yet another mega reward for its shareholders. In a board meeting on October 8, Vedanta declared its first interim dividend of Rs 5 per share for FY27. The total dividend payout will be of Rs 1,995 crore. The Anil Agarwal-backed behemoth holds one of the strongest records of delivering dividends to its investors, with one of the best dividend yields.

As per the regulatory filing, Vedanta declared its first interim dividend of Rs 5 per share for the financial year 2026-27. The face value of the dividend is Re 1 each. While the total payout is to the tune of whopping Rs 1,955 crore.

In the last 12 months, Vedanta has rewarded investors with up to Rs 11 dividend per share. Its last dividend payout was of Rs 11 per share in March month this year. Since September 2003, Vedanta has distributed an eye-popping 46 dividends so far, as per Trendlyne data.

At the current market price, Vedanta's dividend yield is at 4.31% which is one of the strongest among large-caps and metal stocks.

Vedanta Ltd Interim Dividend Record Date

Vedanta said for the purpose of payment of dividend, the record date is fixed on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The interim dividend shall be duly paid within the stipulated timelines as prescribed under law. This also means that October 14th will also be the ex-dividend date for Vedanta's upcoming dividend.

The record date is when the company checks its records to identify the eligible shareholders for a corporate action. While the ex-date means the date on which a stock starts trading without the benefit of corporate action, i.e., ex-benefit, is known as the ex-date. The ex-date and the record date for all the corporate actions are on the same day since all the instruments are moved to the T+1 settlement cycle. A stock will trade with the benefits of the corporate action or cum-benefit (i.e., cum-rights, cum-dividend, etc.) until the ex-date or the record date, as per Zerodha's explainer.

However, despite the dividend announcement, Vedanta shares traded in deep red following bearish market trend. At the time of writing, Vedanta performed at Rs 255.40 apiece on BSE, down by 2.22% with market cap of Rs 99,871.31 crore. The stock has erased its Rs 1 lakh crore market cap mark.

Currently, the stock is trading near its intraday low of Rs 254.10 apiece, after hitting an intraday high of Rs 262.95 apiece. As per BSE, Vedanta shares have a price-to-equity ratio of 6.10x and return on equity of 21.73%.

Buy This Metal Stock Vedanta?

The consensus recommendation from 12 analysts for Vedanta is BUY, as per Trendlyne data. The average 12-month target is of Rs 314.89 apiece, signaling a potential of over 23% upside ahead.

Meanwhile, for Q2FY27, analysts at Kotak Institutional Equities are forecasting a 8.9% qoq increase in EBITDA (+117% yoy) primarily due to higher commodity prices in zinc and better lead/silver volumes at Hindustan Zinc. Also, they predict Zinc International EBITDA of Rs4.9 bn (+32% yoy, +97% qoq), with sales volumes at 48 kt (-21% yoy, -2% qoq).

Hence, Kotak has also recommended BUY with a target price of Rs 305 on Vedanta.
