A boiler tube explosion at Vedanta Ltd’s power plant in Singhitarai village, Sakti district, killed at least 11 workers and injured 22 others, police said. The blast happened on Tuesday afternoon in Chhattisgarh. Officials said the reason for the incident was not immediately clear. The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Sakti Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur said four workers died at the site. The other seven later died during treatment at hospitals. Police said 22 people suffered injuries in the same incident. The injured workers were receiving care at hospitals in the neighbouring Raigarh district, the official added.

After the blast, police teams and local administration staff reached the plant and began rescue work, the SP said. Officials said the zone around the boiler remained very hot. Because of the heat risk, workers and other staff were moved away from the nearby area. Authorities continued to secure the site as operations went on.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai called the explosion extremely tragic. Vishnu Deo Sai said the state government stood with the families of those who died. Vishnu Deo Sai told reporters in Raipur that an inquiry would determine the cause. Vishnu Deo Sai also said strict action would follow against anyone found responsible.
Vedanta power plant blast: Statement names NGSL NTPC GE Power Services Ltd
The plant management issued a statement about the incident. It said, "An unfortunate incident occurred at one of the boiler units at our Singhitarai plant, involving personnel from our sub-contractor, NGSL NTPC GE Power Services Ltd, which operates and maintains the unit.\" The management said it was coordinating with medical teams and local authorities.
The management said medical support remained the immediate focus for those affected. It also said, \"We are in the process of ascertaining details, and a thorough investigation has been initiated in coordination with our partner and relevant authorities,\" Police said the cause was still unknown based on initial information from the site.
Boilers in power plants are sealed systems that heat water into steam using fuel combustion. The steam then turns turbines that help generate electricity. Police said the explosion involved a tube connected to a boiler at the facility. Officials said further findings would depend on the planned investigation and site checks.
