The ministry has decided that all lanes in the toll plazas on national highways shall be declared as "FASTag lane of the fee plaza" with effect from midnight of February 15-16.

This has been done in a bid to boost payment via digital means, reduce waiting time and fuel consumption, and provide for a seamless passage through the fee plazas. Earlier, the government-mandated FasTags for vehicles in M&N categories effective January 1.

'M' category is a vehicle that is used to carry passengers with 4 wheels and the 'N' category are four-wheelers that are used to ferry good and may even carry people.
