Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for VinFast Autos, a Vietnamese EV manufacturer, marking a major investment of Rs 16,000 crore in the state. VinFast aims to generate 3,500 jobs in the initial phase and has plans to produce 1.50 lakh vehicles once the plant becomes operational.
In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast Autos' vehicle and battery product facility in Tuticorin on Sunday, February 25. This development marks a major milestone in the state's journey towards green mobility and economic growth.

VinFast's Ambitious Investment in Tamil Nadu
VinFast, a formidable competitor to American EV giant Tesla, has pledged a substantial investment of Rs 16,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. This investment underscores the company's confidence in the state's potential and its commitment to driving the adoption of electric vehicles in India. Notably, VinFast's decision to establish its manufacturing facility in India comes just 50 days after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government during the Global Investors Meet held in January.
Creating Opportunities and Driving Innovation
Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with VinFast, stating, "With Rs 16,000 crore investments and 10,000-plus jobs on the horizon, we are charging ahead into a future where opportunity and innovation meet." This project aligns perfectly with the state government's vision of fostering distributed industrial growth and creating employment opportunities for young people across all districts of Tamil Nadu.
VinFast's Initial Phase and Future Plans
In the initial phase of its operations, VinFast plans to invest Rs 4,000 crore over the next five years, generating 3,500 jobs in the Tuticorin region. The state-of-the-art plant will have a production capacity of 1.50 lakh vehicles once it becomes operational. VinFast India CEO Pham Sanh Chau emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, "Our groundbreaking ceremony for the plant is a significant stride towards sustainable and green mobility in India."
Building a Strong Brand Presence in India
Recognizing India's potential as a key market in its global expansion strategy, VinFast aims to capitalize on the rapidly growing demand for electric vehicles in the country. In addition to establishing the manufacturing facility, the company plans to set up a nationwide dealership network to build a strong brand presence and connect with customers swiftly.
Tamil Nadu's Commitment to Sustainable Growth
Tamil Nadu's Minister for Industries, TRB Rajaa, lauded the project as a testament to the chief minister's commitment to distributed industrial growth and job creation for young people across the state. This initiative aligns with the state government's broader vision of promoting sustainable development and fostering a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
VinFast's Global Presence and Expertise
Established in 2017, VinFast has quickly emerged as a prominent player in the automotive industry. The company operates a highly automated automotive manufacturing complex in Hai Phong, Vietnam, with up to 90% automation. This expertise and experience position VinFast as a formidable competitor in the global EV market.
Tamil Nadu's partnership with VinFast Autos marks a significant step forward in the state's journey towards sustainable mobility and economic growth. With a substantial investment of Rs 16,000 crore and the creation of thousands of jobs, this project promises to transform the automotive landscape in Tamil Nadu and contribute to India's transition to a greener future.
