Shares of Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) jumped sharply by 10% on Monday, following a crucial clarification from the Supreme Court of India regarding the company's Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues. The apex court's statement has lifted a major overhang of uncertainty that had surrounded the telecom operator's financial outlook.
Vodafone Idea Case: Supreme Court Clarifies VI AGR Order
According to the clarification, the Supreme Court stated that the Government of India is free to consider relief for Vodafone Idea not only on the additional AGR dues but also on the reassessment of all pending dues. This effectively opens the door for potential financial relief for the cash-strapped telecom operator.

During the previous hearing held on October 27, there was confusion regarding the scope of the court's earlier order-whether it applied solely to Vodafone Idea's petition seeking relief on additional AGR dues worth approximately Rs 9,500 crore, or extended to the entire pending dues, estimated at nearly Rs 80,000 crore.
The Supreme Court, acknowledging the unique circumstances surrounding Vodafone Idea, noted that given the Centre's equity stake in the company and the impact on around 20 crore consumers, there is no legal barrier preventing the government from reassessing the issue and taking an appropriate decision.

Vodafone Idea shares opened the session at Rs 9.15 and quickly gained momentum, hitting an intraday high of Rs 9.60, while the day's low stood at Rs 8.76. Over the past year, Vodafone Idea's stock has traded between a 52-week high of Rs 10.57 and a 52-week low of Rs 6.12, reflecting significant volatility amid the company's ongoing financial and operational challenges.
