West Asia ceasefire: Wang Yi urges Ishaq Dar to prevent US-Iran conflict restart

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar that preventing any renewed US-Iran conflict in West Asia is the top priority and that ceasefire momentum must be maintained. The two discussed the Islamabad Talks, China’s support for Pakistan’s diplomatic role, and the Pakistan–China Five-Point Peace Initiative focused on dialogue.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Pakistan’s Ishaq Dar that the main task was stopping the US-Iran conflict from flaring up again in West Asia. Wang urged efforts to protect what China called the "hard-won momentum\" of the ceasefire. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the message came during a phone call between the two leaders on Monday.

Wang Yi, Dar back ceasefire

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Ishaq Dar and Wang Yi reviewed the recently completed Islamabad Talks during the call. China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported Wang’s remarks and noted Wang’s position in the Political Bureau. The two sides also agreed to stay in contact as regional developments continued.

US-Iran conflict and ceasefire focus

Xinhua quoted Wang as saying the \"top priority is to make every effort to prevent the conflict from reigniting in West Asia and maintain the hard-won momentum of the ceasefire\". The Foreign Office said Wang also praised Pakistan’s actions to support peace and stability. China reiterated support for Pakistan’s diplomatic role, the statement added.

Dar, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, repeated Pakistan’s stated line on the crisis. The Foreign Office said Dar stressed dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred way to restore calm. It added that both leaders treated talks as the only workable route. They also discussed steps linked to wider regional stability.

Pakistan-China Five-Point Peace Initiative and Islamabad Talks

The Foreign Office said both sides talked about the Pakistan–China Five-Point Peace Initiative. The initiative was described as aimed at helping resolve issues through peaceful means. The leaders exchanged views on the Islamabad Talks in that context. They agreed to maintain close coordination as the process moved forward, the statement said.

The phone call came after Dar met Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, the Foreign Office said. The discussion focused on developments after the Islamabad talks. The statement said Dar again underlined Pakistan’s resolve to back dialogue and diplomacy. It also said Jiang commended Pakistan’s role in enabling direct talks between the United States and Iran.

Officials said the exchange reflected Pakistan and China’s shared emphasis on diplomacy amid West Asia tensions. Wang’s message focused on keeping the ceasefire on track and avoiding renewed fighting. Pakistan’s side highlighted continued support for dialogue as the main option. Both sides said they would remain in close contact after the Islamabad Talks.
