During a Q&A round on Facebook, Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on May 23, 2020 said, "Our attempt is to start before that. Even if not all international destinations, but a good percentage we can start".

"Why wait till August-September? If situation eases or improves, if virus behaves in a predictable manner, we can get used to the idea of being able to co-exist with it and if we're in a position to make arrangements, why not start by June middle or end July?" says Puri
International flights remain suspended in the country from March 22 even before the nationwide lockdown was imposed from March 25 to curb the spread of Covid 19 that even resulted in the grounding of domestic flights.
Minister during the session was approached with a lot of queries regarding resumption of the international flights as well as users shared information on relatives and friends that are stuck overseas due to the lockdown led suspension of flights.
The second phase of the government-backed Vande Bharat Mission to bring back stranded citizens from overseas is currently underway. A total of 1.9 lakh Indians from around the world have registered to come back to India. As per Puri's comments 50,000
Indians will fly back to India in the first 25 days of the mission.
For the mission, lately apart from Air India and its unit Air India Express, private air-carrier Indigo has also joined.
Notably domestic flights are set to restart from May 25.
