West Bengal SIR: Will ECI Extend 14 Feb Deadline To Release Electoral Roll? What We Know So Far

West Bengal SIR: The final date to publish updated West Bengal electoral roll, ie 14 February is likely to be extended by ten days. The Supreme Court recently instructed the Election Commission of India (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to make the process transparent.

The West Bengal SIR deadline is likely to be extended because the revised list of voters will be flagged for "logical discrepancies". The authority will ensure that the revised list is accessible to the public, and it will be displayed at public places in every taluka and block office.

Those voters in Bengal, who do not find their names in the electoral roll, can submit documents or objections through an authorised representative, including BLA.

Will West Bengal SIR Deadline Be Extended?

In a bid to work on SC orders, the poll body is likely to extend the 14 February deadline to publish the final electoral roll, reported Hindustan Times citing sources.
As per the HT report, the court wants the revision drive to be more open, accessible and friendly for voters, and that direction makes the current schedule difficult. The Election Commission of India has not issued a fresh notification yet, but preparations for a longer timeline are underway.

Meanwhile, the EC has issued directions to implement the SC's order on the SIR of electoral rolls in West Bengal.

It mandates public display of names under Logical Discrepancies and Unmapped categories and provides affected voters opportunities to submit documents and be heard within a specified timeline.

The Commission has also directed West Bengal authorities to strictly implement the Supreme Court's order this month related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.

It has instructed the state administration and police to ensure adequate manpower, smooth conduct of hearings, and maintenance of law and order, with strict action for any non-compliance.

West Bengal SIR

The Special Intensive Revision in the poll-bound state started on November 4, 2025. A draft electoral roll followed on December 16, giving voters a chance to check names and details before the final list. Claims and objections were first accepted till January 15 and then allowed up to January 19.

The Election Commission of India has already fixed a schedule for hearings related to these claims. Those proceedings are planned to continue until February 7, after which the final electoral roll is due on February 14. Officials now expect the new Supreme Court directions to alter this timeline, reported HT.

The Election Commission of India has separately written to the Director General of state police and the commissioner of Kolkata Police. Those letters ask the police leadership to prevent any law-and-order disturbances that might slow or disrupt the Special Intensive Revision hearings or related field work.
