What is Cockroach Janta Party? Founder, Controversy & Story Behind India's Biggest GenZ Political Rebellion
If we turn the pages of India's political history, we will find that most revolutions began with speeches, rallies, slogans, or protests. But in 2026, one of the country's biggest political internet movements began with a cockroach emoji.
What started as a sarcastic tweet has now channelled into India's most viral digital rebellion, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a meme-powered political movement that crossed 10 million Instagram followers in just a few days and shook the internet.

What Is The Cockroach Janta Party & How It Started
The Cockroach Janta Party, also called the "Cockroach People's Party" is a satirical youth political movement founded on May 16, 2026.
Its slogan describes it as: "A political front of the youth, by the youth, for the youth-Secular, Socialist, Democratic, and Lazy."
The movement was started after controversial remarks made during a Supreme Court hearing by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
During the hearing, the CJI reportedly referred to some unemployed youth as "cockroaches" and "parasites of society." The comments triggered massive outrage online, especially among Gen Z users already struggling with unemployment, rising living costs, exam pressure, and no support from the govt institutions.

The CJI later clarified that his criticism was specifically for the individuals using fake law degrees to enter the profession, not India's unemployed youth.
He even stated "Every youth of India inspires me. I see them as the pillars of a developed India."
But by then, the internet had already moved and the internet never forgets.
Meet The Founder: Abhijeet Dipke
Behind the movement is Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old digital strategist from Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
Dipke previously worked with the Aam Aadmi Party's social media team between 2020 and 2022, where he helped create meme-driven political content during Delhi election campaigns.

That same internet-first strategy became the backbone of the Cockroach Janata Party. As outrage spread online, Dipke posted one simple line on X, "What if all cockroaches come together?"
That single sentence became the birth of a movement Soon after, he launched social media pages, a website, membership forms, and branding for the Cockroach Janata Party, a satirical twist on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to international media later, Dipke said many young Indians wanted politics that reflected their, humour, frustrations, internet language and take account of what they need.
How Cockroach Janta Party Crossed 10 Million Followers
From day 1 itself the growth was almost unbelievable. On May 16, Dipke shared a Google Form inviting "all cockroaches" to join the movement.
Within hours nearly 15,000 people signed up,memes flooded Instagram and "Main Bhi Cockroach" started trending across all social media platforms.
Internet Exploded on the second day and within 48 hours, the party launched an anthem, Instagram followers crossed half a million and over 1 lakh members registered.
As of today, May 21, the handle @cockroachjantaparty crossed 10.8 million followers crossing BJP's official Instagram page which has 8.7 million followers.
Why Gen Z Connected With It So Deeply
The success of the Cockroach Janata Party is not really about jokes, or memes, it is about emotional relatability. Millions of young Indians today feel ignored, overqualified but unemployed, financially trapped and to them CJP felt raw and painfully relatable.
The logic for them is, "If surviving a broken system makes us "cockroaches," then survival itself becomes resistance."
CJP's manifesto includes a five-point political agenda for 2029, anti-corruption themes, opposition to post-retirement Rajya Sabha appointments, youth employment discussions and institutional accountability.
This weird combination of comedy and seriousness is exactly why the movement became so powerful online.
Whether the Cockroach Janta Party survives politically or disappears like every other meme phenomenon will be interesting to watch.
However, in just five days, a cockroach became the face of India's biggest youth internet rebellion and that says more about modern politics than any election result ever could.
