Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, October 11, launched two welfare schemes to boost farm production. PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana and PM Mission for Atmanirbharta in Pulses are two schemes launched with a combined outlay of Rs 35,440 crore.
The initiatives were launched during a special Krishi program held in New Delhi. The two schemes have already been approved by the Cabinet and will be implemented from the winter season till 2030-31.

What is PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana?
The 'PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana' is designed to boost agricultural productivity and promote sustainable practices. With an allocation of Rs 24,000 crore, it aims to improve irrigation and credit facilities across 100 districts.
As per the schemes, registered farmers will get access to high-yielding seeds, bio-fertilisers, and mechanised tools like seed drills to boost production. The scheme also encourages farmers to diversify into high-value crops like pulses and vegetables, and direct market access through apps.
The government-run scheme will also focus in improving irrigation system, storage facilities, market access and even global exposure.
What is the Mission for Atmanirbharta in Pulses?
As the name suggests, the 'Mission for Atmanirbharta in Pulses' will focus on enhancing pulse production. The scheme has been launched with a budget of Rs 11,440 crore.
The scheme's emphasis will be on the development and distribution of latest varieties of pulses which are high in productivity, pest-resistant and climate-resilient. Additionally, states will prepare 5-year rolling production plan.
Nearly, 126 lakh quintals certified seeds will be distributed to pulse-growing farmers, covering 370 lakh hectares by 2030-31.
During the event, Modi also inaugurated projects worth over 5,450 crore rupees in sectors like animal husbandry and food processing. Additionally, he laid foundation stones for projects valued at around 815 crore rupees. He highlighted that these efforts would significantly benefit millions of farmers nationwide.
Modi stressed that reforms in agriculture are crucial for India's rapid development. He noted that since 2014, agricultural exports have nearly doubled and food grain production has increased by about 90 million metric tonnes. Fruit and vegetable output has also seen substantial growth.
The Prime Minister urged farmers to diversify crops beyond traditional staples like wheat and rice. He emphasised focusing on pulses to ensure protein security for the nation. Modi stated that transforming low-performing agricultural districts is vital for the success of these schemes.
Other projects inaugurated during the event were artificial insemination training centres in Bengaluru and Jammu and Kashmir, centres of excellence at Amreli and Banas, an IVF lab in Assam under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, milk powder plants at Mehsana, Indore, and Bhilwara, and a fish feed plant under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana at Tezpur
PM Modi also distributed certificates to farmers certified under the National Mission for Natural Farming, MAITRI technicians, and Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies (PACS) converted to Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PMKSKs) and Common Service Centres (CSCs).
