United States President Donald Trump has recently unveiled TrumpRx, a platform that offers lower-cost drugs, describing it as "one of the most transformative health care initiatives of all time."
The new online initiative does not dispense medications directly. Instead, serves as a portal that allows patients to purchase select drugs straight from pharmaceutical manufacturers at discounted cash prices.

"It's a portal where someone can check if they can find a cheaper price, direct-to-consumer, from a drug manufacturer," Kaye Pestaina, vice president and director of KFF's patient and consumer protections program, told CBS News. "It's not a storefront."

Which Drugs Are Available Under TrumpRx?

TrumpRx currently features coupons for 43 medications, offering discounts ranging from 33 per cent to 93 per cent off the list price. These drugs are used to treat conditions such as obesity, respiratory diseases, infertility, bladder disorders, menopause, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and autoimmune conditions.

TrumpRx vs GoodRx: Comparison Of Discounted Drug Prices

One example highlighted on TrumpRx is Protonix, a branded medication by Pfizer used to reduce stomach acid. The platform advertises a 55 per cent discount, lowering the price from $447.28 to $200.10 for 30 tablets of the 20 mg strength.

However, data from GoodRx shows that the generic version, pantoprazole, can be purchased for $10.47 for the same dosage and quantity using a GoodRx coupon. Without the coupon, the estimated cost is still under $80.

Similarly, another Pfizer drug, Tikosyn, which treats irregular heart rhythms, is listed on TrumpRx at a 50 per cent discount, priced at $336 for 60 capsules of 0.125 mg strength. In comparison, its generic equivalent, dofetilide, is available on GoodRx for $23.06 with a standard coupon, representing a 94 per cent reduction from the listed price of $373.96.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration plans to bring more pharmaceutical companies into the program by signing additional pricing agreements. This is intended to expand the range of discounted drugs and increase savings for consumers.

Moreover, for people who rely on insurance to buy prescriptions, Trump has urged Congress to pass his proposed Great Healthcare Plan. According to him, the plan would lock in these drug price reductions, reduce insurance premiums, improve price transparency, and allow TrumpRx.gov purchases to be covered by health insurance plans.
