WhatsApp Bill Payments Launched In India: How To Pay Electricity, Gas, Water Bills, FASTag And More

WhatsApp Bill Payment has now officially arrived in India, which is going to let users manage their everyday payments, like electricity bills, through the app.

WhatsApp Bill Payments' new feature was rolled out on September 3rd and has been created to help users complete routine bill payments without switching between multiple apps.

The service is powered by Bharat Connect, formerly known as the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), and gives users access to 22,722 billers across 30 categories.

WhatsApp Bill Payments & What Bills Can You Pay?

With the help of the new WhatsApp bill payment feature, users can pay several household and financial bills, including Electricity bills, Gas bills, Water bills, FASTag, Insurance premiums, Credit card bills, Loan repayments etc.

How To Pay Bills On WhatsApp

Using the new WhatsApp feature is very simple. Users can follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the WhatsApp application on your phone.
Step 2: Select the rupee icon at the top of the WhatsApp home screen.
Step 3: You first need to add your Bank account if not done so yet
Step 4: Once added, select the relevant bill category.
Step 5: Then select the biller.
Step 6: You will have to enter and confirm the required account details.
Step 7: WhatsApp will fetch the outstanding bill amount.
Step 8: Then review the amount and proceed with the payment.

Payments can be made using UPI, debit cards or credit cards. The new bill payment facility is being rolled out slowly & gradually to Android and iOS users across India. This means a lot of people will not get the availability of the feature. The rollout is expected to reach more users over the coming weeks.

WhatsApp's Push To Expand Financial Services

WhatsApp has been trying to expand its presence in India through WhatsApp Pay. According to the NPCI data, WhatsApp Pay processed around 150 million transactions in June 2026, compared with about 37 million transactions in June 2024. Its share of UPI transaction volume increased to around 0.7% in June 2026 from 0.27% two years earlier.
