WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram Outage Restored; What Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Said On Mass Technical Issue

Thousands of users globally faced technical glitches on their WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook as these social media giants witnessed massive outages in the late hours of Wednesday, which continued till the early hours of Thursday, December 12. Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg's Meta has shed light on the global outage. As per the latest development, the majority of the issue has been resolved.

Instagram Down:

As per the outage detector website, DownDetector, at around 11.29 pm on Wednesday, some 25,875 users reported that Instagram was down, which further shot up to 32,124 reports within minutes at around 11.44 pm. It took another three hours to clear the issue, as by 12.14 am on Thursday the number of complaints was about 18,525, which slipped further to 3,787 reports by 12:59 am. By 3:14 am, the number of complaints was about 120. At 5:44 am, only 50 were reported.

WhatsApp Down:

As per the data, from 15,857 complaints by 11:23 pm, it reached 27,229 complaints by 11:38 pm. The majority of users' technical issues was resolved within minutes, as the reported complaints fell to 1,438 by 12:08 am on Thursday. By 5:53 am, it was reported that some 18 people faced the issue.

After midnight, WhatsApp said "We're aware of some issues accessing WhatsApp. We're actively working on a solution and starting to see a return to normal for most people. We expect things to be back to normal shortly."

The social media app further said after 4 am "we're back, happy chatting!"

However, some users have reported that their accounts were suspended after the outage was resolved. A user named Junior Teca said, "WhatsApp, you guys suspended my account without any reason and during your outage," adding, "I don't know what to do to recover my account please help me."

Another user said, "I have no access to my account all of a sudden. Please help!"

Facebook Down:

The data showed that some 6,129 reported complaints about outage on Facebook by 11:41 pm of Wednesday. Currently, there were only 5 such complaints.

Meta, who was earlier known as Facebook, said, "We're aware that a technical issue is impacting some users' ability to access our apps. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience." This was posted during midnight after Thursday."

However, Meta has informed that 99% of the issue has been resolved. Through its X handler, at around 3:56 AM of Thursday, "Thanks for bearing with us! We're 99% of the way there - just doing some last checks. We apologize to those who've been affected by the outage."

Notably, after the outage was majorly resolved, various users faced different issues like account banning, and one user even reported that its Facebook account is hacked. While users are still facing the outage issue.

Dougiecuurs59, a X user said, "My FB account was hacked and I can't get into at all and I can't get any help!!! Can someone please help me????"

While X netizens enjoyed the fact that Meta had to announce its technical issue on X which is owned by billionaire Elon Musk. Mark Zuckerberg and Musk have been in the past in an intense riff-off that had the world hooked over them.

Despite the global outage, Meta shares ended higher by 2.16% on Nasdaq, to $632.68 a piece on December 11, 2024.
