Major Changes From March 1 2026

Indian Railways to Discontinue UTS App From 1 March 2026

Indian Railways will discontinue its older UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile application starting 1 March 2026. After this date, passengers will no longer be able to book unreserved or platform tickets using the existing UTS app.

Railway authorities have shifted focus to a newer, unified ticketing platform called RailOne, which will now handle all unreserved ticket bookings.

This includes:

  • General unreserved tickets
  • Platform tickets
  • Suburban and short-distance journey tickets

Regular commuters and daily passengers are advised to download and familiarise themselves with the RailOne app in advance, as the transition will be mandatory. Tickets booked through the old UTS app will not be supported once the app is phased out.

WhatsApp, Telegram to Stop Working Without SIM From March 1: SIM-Binding Rules to Take Effect

A major digital security-related change is also coming into effect from 1 March 2026, impacting users of popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has mandated stricter SIM-binding rules, under which messaging apps will function only if the original SIM card used during account registration remains active in the device.

What Is SIM-Binding Rule?

SIM-binding means that a messaging account will remain linked strictly to the SIM number used to create it. If the SIM card is removed from the phone, replaced with another SIM, deactivated and ported to another number, all the messaging apps will automatically log out, ending the active session.

According to the DoT, this measure is aimed at reducing cybercrime, identity theft and digital fraud, and strengthening national security. The government has made it clear that no exemptions will be granted, even if it affects user convenience.

With the deadline ending on 28 February 2026, the rule officially comes into force from Sunday, 1 March 2026.

LPG, CNG, PNG, ATF; Fuel Price Revisions Also Expected on March 1

As with every month, prices of LPG cylinders, CNG, PNG, and ATF are also expected to be revised on 1 March 2026. Any change in fuel prices may have a direct impact on household expenses, transport costs, and air travel fares.
