The festive season is slowly moving toward the peak as people across India are now preparing to celebrate Dhanteras 2025, one of the most auspicious festivals that begins the Diwali celebrations. This year people are confused about whether Dhanteras 2025 falls on October 18 or October 19. According to Drik Panchang, Dhanteras Puja 2025 will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18th, with the Trayodashi Tithi beginning at 12:18 PM on October 18th and ending at 1:51 PM on October 19th.

When is Dhanteras 2025? Correct Date and Time
The confusion about the Dhanteras date arises because the Trayodashi Tithi, which determines the day of Dhantrayodashi, overlaps between October 18 and 19. However, as per the Hindu Panchang, the Dhanteras Puja Muhurat 2025 falls on October 18, and that is when people should perform Lakshmi Puja and light the Yama Deep.

Significance of Dhanteras Festival
Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, is the first day of the five-day Diwali festival. The word 'Dhan' means 'wealth', and 'Teras' refers to the thirteenth day of the Hindu calendar. On this day, people worship Lord Dhanvantari, the god of Ayurveda, and Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. It is believed that buying gold, silver, or new utensils on Dhanteras 2025 brings good fortune and prosperity for a family throughout the year. Many also light Yama Deepak in the evening to protect themselves & their family from negative energies.
As a part of the Dhanteras festival rituals, people clean and decorate their homes with rangolis, diyas, torans to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees perform the Lakshmi Puja and the Dhanvantari Puja during the Pradosh Kaal.
During the Dhanteras festival, the rise in the demand for precious metals is seen. People flock to retail jewellers to buy gold & silver coins, jewellery, or biscuits for their auspicious purchase. Surge is also seen in electronic items & utensils as well, as these purchases are considered auspicious symbols of wealth and growth.
