After days of heavy selling, sharp swings, and cautious investor sentiment, trading activity has come to a complete halt, not because of market recovery, but due to an unscheduled holiday.

The stock market is closed today, January 15th, due to municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government has declared a public holiday for civic elections across several local bodies, including Mumbai. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are headquartered in Mumbai. As a result, trading activity across equity, equity derivatives, and related segments has been suspended for the day. Trading will resume normally on Friday, January 16, 2026.
When Is the Next NSE Holiday After Today?
After the January 15 stock market holiday, the next scheduled trading holiday is on Republic Day when the stock market will remain fully closed on January 26 which is a Monday.
