When Will Monsoon Reach Delhi? Check Expected Date as IMD Predicts Temperature Rise in Next 24 Hours

Delhi residents may have to wait a little longer for the much-awaited southwest monsoon as weather forecasts indicate a possible delay in its arrival over the national capital. While Delhi usually welcomes monsoon around June 27, the current progress of rain-bearing winds suggests that the seasonal rains may not reach the city on time this year.

Delhi Weather Update: Monsoon Arrival Likely to Be Delayed; Check Expected Date

According to private weather forecaster Skymet, the southwest monsoon is unlikely to arrive in Delhi on or before its normal onset date of June 27. The assessment is based on the present movement of the monsoon system and its expected advancement over the next several days.

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi's official normal monsoon arrival date was revised to June 27 in 2020, compared with the earlier benchmark of June 29. Although the city has witnessed slight variations in monsoon arrival over the past few years, major delays have also been recorded in the past.

Delhi Monsoon 2026: Will Rains Arrive After the Normal Date? Past Records Show Rains Have Arrived as Late as July 26

Delhi Weather Forecast for June 19 and 20: IMD Predicts Temperature Likely to Rise Before Relief

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a gradual increase in daytime temperatures across Delhi over the next two days. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise by around 2°C to 3°C till June 20.

Night temperatures are also expected to become warmer, with minimum temperatures likely to increase by 2°C to 4°C over the next five days. However, the weather department has indicated that a fall of around 2°C to 3°C in maximum temperatures could occur during the subsequent 48 hours, bringing some relief from the heat.

Pre-Monsoon Showers to Continue in Delhi-NCR

Despite the delay in the monsoon's arrival, Delhi and neighbouring areas are likely to witness occasional spells of light rain and thunderstorms due to ongoing pre-monsoon activity.

These rain spells are expected to be short-lived and not very intense, but they may help lower temperatures temporarily and improve overall weather comfort.
