White House UFC event marks Donald Trump 80th birthday amid Iran war and inflation
President Donald Trump turned 80 as the White House hosted a UFC card on the South Lawn under the Freedom 250 banner. Court filings cite more than USD 60 million and extensive labour to build the arena. The event unfolds amid a three-month Iran war, oil-market volatility, and higher inflation.
President Donald Trump turned 80 on Sunday as the White House prepared for an unusual event. A UFC cage-fighting card was set for the South Lawn on Sunday night. The plan came as the United States faced a three-month war with Iran. That conflict was widely unpopular with Americans and has shaken oil markets.

Inflation had also risen to its highest level since April 2023. Even so, the White House opened its grounds for a seven-fight UFC programme. The event was held under the Freedom 250 banner. It marked Trump’s 80th birthday and the 250th year since the Declaration of Independence was signed.
White House UFC card details and schedule
More than USD 60 million was spent to build the arena, a court filing said. The filing came from the National Park Service, which manages the South Lawn. The main card was due to begin at 8 pm Eastern. Two title fights were set to headline the programme on Paramount+.
All seven fights on the card featured male fighters. Alex Pereira of Brazil faced Ciryl Gane of France for the interim UFC heavyweight title. Spanish-Georgian lightweight champion Ilia Topuria then met interim champion Justin Gaethje. Gaethje was one of two Americans holding any share of the UFC’s 11 championship belts.
Dana White and Trump UFC relationship
The event highlighted a long link between UFC CEO Dana White and Trump. The relationship has brought personal, political and financial gains for both. It began about 25 years ago and continued through Trump’s time in office. White’s first card as UFC president took place in 2001.
That first UFC event under White was held at Trump Taj Mahal. Trump later attended four UFC cards while serving as president. Trump walked to the cage with rock music playing. Fans also shouted patriotic chants, similar to those used for fighters. White introduced Trump at two Republican National Conventions.
Weather risk for White House UFC card
Some fans online described the card as underwhelming. Still, it included Michael Chandler and Derrick Lewis, both former title-fight challengers. Former 135-pound champion Sean OMalley was also on the main card. White said the show would proceed despite the weather.
Strong thunderstorms and heavy lightning disrupted a Lincoln Memorial promotional event on Friday. Forecasts for Sunday evening also looked risky. Even with those threats, organisers planned to stage the fights outdoors on the South Lawn. The National Park Service filing highlighted the scale of work involved.
