Women Related Programmes Get Rs 28,600 crore Allocation in Union Budget 2020

The government has proposed allocation for women-centric developments with a move to improve the lives of girls and women in India and accordingly Rs 28,600 crore will be allocated in fiscal 2021 for women linked programmes by the government.

The Modi government which had launched the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of the development and welfare of girls in India has witnessed a phenomenal growth in enrollment.

The Finance Minister in her budget speech announced that the gross enrollment of girls under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme is higher when compared to that of boys. She noted that the gross enrollment of girls touched 94.32 per cent in the elementary level, 81.32 per cent in secondary level and 59.7 per cent in the higher secondary level.

She also added that women are a priority especially the pregnant and lactating women and more than 6 lakh Anganwadi workers are equipped to upload the status of more than 10 crore households. Overall there is a mandate to lower the maternal mortality rates. Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed task force on six months on this matter.

She further added that an allocation of Rs 35,600 crore has been done for nutrition-related programmes for fiscal 2021.

Dhaanya Laxmi Scheme has been rolled out for women's self-help group. These groups known as Dhaanya Laxmi will be helped by NABARD and Mudra Schemes. It is a village storage scheme for women.

The government has also allocated Rs 35,600 crores for Nutritional programmes.
