World Trade Organization(WTO) Panel Rules Against India In IT Tariffs Dispute With EU, Others

In a dispute with the European Union, Japan, and Taiwan over import levies on IT equipment, a World Trade Organisation panel declared on Monday that India had broken international trade laws.

According to the WTO panel's report, we advise India to bring these measures into compliance with its commitments.

In 2019, the EU contested India's decision to impose import taxes ranging from 7.5% to 20% on a variety of IT items, including integrated circuits, mobile phones, and component parts. Similar complaints were made in the same year by Japan and Taiwan.

According to the European Commission, the EU will represent 10.8% of all Indian commerce in 2021, making it India's third-largest economic partner. India may challenge the WTO panel's judgement. A request for comment was not immediately answered by its diplomatic representation in Geneva.
