February WPI Inflation Falls To 2.26% On Decline In Food Article Prices
For the month of February, the WPI or wholesale price index came in at 2.26% (provisional) in contrast to 3.1% for the earlier month. During the corresponding month, a year ago, inflation at wholesale level came in at 2.93%.

The softness in WPI inflation is primarily attributed to the decline in food article prices which for the February month has declined to 7.31% as against 10.12% in the previous month.
Food article index also witnessed a decrease of 3.7% for the February month due to decline in fruit and vegetable prices (14%), tea (8%), egg and maize (7% each), Nonetheless, there has been reported a hike in the price of beef and buffalo meat and fish-marine (5 % each), betel leaves (4%), moong and poultry chicken (3% each), mutton (2%) and barley, rajma and arhar (1 % each).
