Zomato Delivery Partners Monthly Earn Rs 28,000, Reveals CEO Deepinder Goyal

Food delivery app Zomato has provided earning opportunities to over 15 lakh delivery partners in 2024, CEO Deepinder Goyal shared in his post on X (formerly Twitter). He added that the delivery partners have earned an average of approximately Rs 28,000 per month, even after factoring in estimated fuel cost, which is estimated at Rs 5,000 per month.

Launched in 2008 as FoodieBay, Zomato has provided its delivery partners flexibility to earn year-round, logged at any time. Several partners use the platform to earn part-time income, while others work seasonally or during specific hours of the day, based on their availability.

The gig workers associated with the Gurugram-based company are by default covered under its delivery partner insurance policy that includes accident, death and health coverage, amongst other benefits. Notably, the company has paid out claims exceeding Rs 53 crore annually, with 55 per cent of 2024 claims covering non-accident medical expenses. This financial safety net has been a crucial support for gig workers, ensuring they have access to medical aid whenever they need.

"As our network continues to grow, we take immense pride in the positive impact we're having on the livelihoods of our partners. Our commitment to their well being is unwavering, and we'll continue to prioritize them every step of the way," CEO Deepinder Goyal emphasized in his post on X.

How Zomato Gig Workers Earn ?

Gig workers associated with Zomato work on an earn per delivery model, meaning they will earn based on the number of deliveries. Their earnings are transferred to their bank accounts on a weekly basis, which can be tracked under the Payments section in the Zomato Delivery Partner app.

Additionally, the food delivery app also offers bonuses to its delivery partners which varies from city to city. The company provides a starting bonus, which is given after the delivery partner completes a specific number of deliveries within a stipulated period of time after joining, and Referral Bonus, which is provided on referring their friends to join the platform as a delivery partner.

To maximize their earnings, some delivery partners chose to work during the peak hours, such as lunch or dinner. Those who work full-time, clocking in extended hours, can earn even more through additional incentives and high-order volumes.

Who Are Gig Workers ?

As per Labour Codes of 2019, a gig worker is "a person who performs work or participates in a work arrangement and earns from such activities outside of traditional employer-employee relationship". This includes freelancers, contractual workers, and those who work on project-basis.

Challenges Faced By Gig Workers

While the flexibility and earnings potential attract many towards gig work, challenges remain. Rising fuel prices, road safety concerns, and unpredictable weather conditions often impact the daily earnings and job stability. Additionally, gig workers do not get traditional job benefits such as paid leave or retirement benefits.

Recognizing these challenges, Zomato has been making efforts to enhance partner benefits by providing more financial support and improved app features for better navigation and delivery tracking.
