Two Buses Crash in Tamil Nadu: At Least 11 Dead, 60 Injured Reported

A devastating crash between two Tamil Nadu government buses claimed 11 lives and left 60 others injured on Sunday evening near Kummangudi in Sivaganga district.

The impact of the collision was so severe that one of the buses was torn open, leaving passengers trapped and the site strewn with injured victims.

Crash Near Kummangudi Leaves Trail of Devastation

Police confirmed that the accident took place about five kilometres from Pillaiyarpatti in the Tirupattur region. The Tamil Nadu Police chief said, "Eleven people, including a child, were killed in a road accident in Sivaganga district."

Local residents and surviving passengers stepped in immediately, helping pull people out of the mangled remains of the two vehicles. Their quick action, alongside the first responders, helped move the injured to safety while waiting for ambulances to arrive.

One of the buses was on its way from Tiruppur to Karaikudi, while the other was travelling from Karaikudi towards Dindigul district. The force of the crash left the driver's side of one bus completely ripped off.

Visuals Capture the Horror at the Accident Site

Photos from the scene revealed extensive structural damage, while videos showed bodies laid out on the ground in a line. One clip captured a woman jumping out of a shattered front section where the windshield had blown away. Another woman was seen seated on the ground, bleeding heavily from her forehead.

Emergency teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals, and officials said more details regarding the cause of the accident and the condition of the hospitalised passengers will follow as investigations progress.

Second Major Collision in the Region Within a Week

Authorities noted that this marks the second significant head on collision in southern Tamil Nadu in just a week. In the earlier incident, six people died in Tenkasi district after two private buses rammed into each other. Investigators in that case had suspected reckless driving by one of the buses.
