8th Pay Commission: Salary Hike Of 92% To 285% In 8th CPC From Rs 18,000 Basic Pay Depending On Fitment Factor
The 8th Pay Commission is yet to be implemented, however, the majority are expecting a 92% to 283% hike in the basic pay of central government employees. All depends upon the fitment factor, which is the focal point for the salary revisions. While the fitment factor is yet to be decided by the government-formed 8th CPC committee, many unions, pensioner groups and other experts have announced their recommendations for the fitment factor. At present, the 8th CPC fitment factor is being estimated between 1.92 and as high as 3.83, which will not only double but triple the basic salaries under the 7th Pay Commission.
Let's understand in detail.

8th Pay Commission Fitment Factor Predictions:
In simple words, the fitment factor is important in deciding the basic salary matrix under the 8th Pay Commission. Fitment factor is the multiplying tool that is applied to basic pay. Formula: 8th Pay Basic Pay = 7th Pay Basic Salary X Fitment Factor.
At present, the lowest predicted fitment factor under the 8th Pay Commission is 1.92, while the highest estimate is 3.83. If either of them is approved, the basic pay under the 8th Pay Commission could rise by 92% to range from Rs 34,560 to Rs 68,940 per month compared to the current basic pay.
Here are some of the estimates for 8th Pay fitment factor:
Conservative estimates by experts: 1.92 Fitment Factor
2. All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Estimate: 3 Fitment Factor
3. Jammu & Kashmir Employee Forum Estimate: 3.05 Fitment Factor
4. Federation of National Postal Organisations (FNPO) Estimate: 3.25 Fitment Factor
5. Jammu and Kashmir Employees Coordination Committee Estimates: 2.86 to 3.68 Fitment Factor

8th Pay Commission Salary Calculation:
By applying the formula, the minimum basic pay under the 8th Pay Commission could reach Rs 34,560 and the highest hike could be around Rs 68,940 per month. Let's take an example!
Firstly, you have to remember that the current basic pay is of Rs 18,000 per month at a fitment factor of 2.57 in the 7th Pay Commission. This factor is crucial in determining the salary hike you will receive under the 8th Pay Commission.
Example 1: If the government approves a 1.92 fitment factor, then your basic salary could be hiked by 92%.
Formula: Rs 18,000 (7th CPC Basic Pay) X 1.92 = Rs 34,560 per month under 8CPC.
Example 2: If the government approves a 2.86 fitment factor, then your new salary hike would be by 186%. This is already more than double the basic pay under 7th CPC.
Formula: Rs 18,000 x 2.86 = Rs 51,480 per month under 8CPC.
Example 3: If the government approves a fitment factor of 3.68, then the salary could increase by a whopping 268%.
Formula: Rs 18,000 X 3.68 = Rs 66,240 per month under 8th CPC.
Example 4: If the highest fitment factor of 3.833 is approved for the 8th Pay Commission, then basic pay could nearly triple by 283% from 7th Pay current salary.
Formula: Rs 18,000 x 3.833 = Rs 68,940 per month under 8CPC.
8th Pay Commission Salary Hike Comparison
For level 1 employees, it is broadly expected that their basic pay could rise to Rs 32,000 to around Rs 69,000 per month. But basic salary could cross Rs 1 lakh per month for level 5 employees, while it could cross Rs 2 lakh per month for level 10 employees. The highest salary could near Rs 10 lakh for level 18 employees under the 8th CPC. Hence, the pay matrix under the 8th CPC varies from central government employees' grades and levels. The higher the level, the higher your basic salary!
