Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline, Late Fees, Penalty

The last date to link Aadhaar with PAN is 31 December 2025. Missing the Aadhaar-PAN linking deadline can lead to a strict penalty of Rs 1,000. In some cases, it can also lead to freezing of financial activities. An inoperative PAN from January 1, 2026 may affect income tax returns, refunds and several banking services.

The rule mainly affects people whose Permanent Account Number was generated using an Aadhaar Enrolment ID submitted before October 1, 2024. For these taxpayers, PAN Aadhaar linking is compulsory. New PAN applicants using Aadhaar now usually get both identifiers connected automatically during the online PAN application process.

Aadhaar-PAN Linking: Mismatched Details, Corrections, Status Check

Some people are facing problems while linking the PAN-Aadhaar process because their details do not match the database. As per the Income Tax website, the name, date of birth, or gender differences can trigger rejection.

Reasons Behind Aadhaar-PAN Detail Mismatch

There could be multiple reasons behind the Aadhaar-PAN detail mismatch. The first reason could be a spelling mismatch. There are high chances that the individual's name spelling is different in the Aadhaar card from the one mentioned in the PAN card.

Additionally, a mismatched date of birth (DOB), a wrong mobile number, and other details also account for mismatched Aadhaar-PAN details.

How To Correct Aadhaar-PAN Mismatched Details?

People can either apply to change details in PAN or in Aadhaar to ensure that details on both documents are the same. To change details in Aadhaar, people can visit the official website of UIDAI or contact the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

To change details in PAN card, people are required to apply for corrections online via Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL portals.

If PAN Aadhaar linking still does not work even after online corrections, biometric verification might be needed. Taxpayers can visit authorised PAN service centres for fingerprint or iris checks. These centres can review records, update details where permitted and then reattempt the PAN Aadhaar linking request.

How To Check PAN-Aadhaar Linking Status?

Anyone unsure about PAN Aadhaar linking status can check it online. On the e-filing portal, select "Link Aadhaar Status", then enter PAN and Aadhaar numbers and submit. The page will show one of three messages: "Your Aadhaar is already linked with PAN", "Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request is pending", or "Aadhaar is not linked with PAN".
