Annapurna Bhandar Yojna 2026: Top 5 Reasons Your Application Could Be Rejected Before the Deadline

West Bengal's women's welfare scheme, Annapurna Bhandar Yojana, is now seeing a major roadblock during its rollout: around 26 lakh applications have been rejected in the government's verification drive.

So,if you applied and checked your status and saw Rejected it could be due to multiple reasons and here's what you can do about it.
The Annapurna Yojana replaced the earlier Lakshmir Bhandar scheme after West Bengal's BJP government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, took office in May 2026.

Where Lakshmir Bhandar paid different amounts by category which was Rs. 1,700 for SC/ST women and Rs. 1,500 for others, the Annapurna Bhandar yojna promised a flat Rs. 3,000 per month which is Rs. 36,000 annually for every eligible woman, credited directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into an Aadhaar-linked bank account.

The scheme launched on June 1, 2026. The first DBT round went out on June 3, covering more than 28 lakh women, and thereafter by a much larger second tranche on July 1 that reached close to 1.3 crore beneficiaries.

Eligibility To Qualify For Annapurna Yojna

To be eligible, an applicant must be:

A woman who is a permanent resident of West Bengal
Between 25 and 60 years of age
Not an income tax payer
From a household where no member holds a government job or pension
have an active, single-holder bank account linked to Aadhaar

Women who were already receiving Lakshmir Bhandar were supposed to be migrated automatically, unless flagged which is exactly where most of the trouble has come from.

The Five Main Reasons Why Applications Are Being Rejected

1. Citizenship or domicile doubts: This is the main reason for the majority of the 26 lakh rejections announced by the Chief Minister on July 1st. Verification raised doubts about whether the applicant is genuinely a citizen and permanent resident of West Bengal.

2. Name deleted during SIR: The Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls that took place during west bengal election has removed a large number of names under the ASDD classification which is Absent, Shifted, Dead, or Duplicate. Anyone in this category was automatically removed from the Lakshmir Bhandar to Annapurna Bhandar migration.

3. If any family member draws a regular government salary or pension, the whole household is disqualified, this is a hard rule with no appeal process.

4. Similarly, if you or anyone in your family has filed an Income Tax Return, the application is rejected outright and there's no way to contest it.
5. A Big chunk of rejections are purely technical rather than about eligibility things like an incorrect Aadhaar number, a wrong bank account number or IFSC code.

What To Do, Based on Your Rejection Reason

If it's a citizenship or domicile issue: Go to your nearest BDO office (rural) or SDO office (urban) with your Temporary Application ID. Carry your Aadhaar, Voter ID, ration card, and any document that proves long-term residency in West Bengal.

For a document error or mismatch, there's currently no self-service correction option on the portal, so you'll need to visit your BDO or SDO office in person with your Temporary Application ID, the correct documents, and a written note explaining what needs fixing.

Last Day To Apply For Annapurna Bhandar Yojna

The window for fresh applications and corrections closes on 25 August 2026. After that date, no new applications or corrections will be accepted in the current enrollment cycle.
