Are Rs. 2000 Notes Being Discontinued: Here's The Clarification

Seeing less of Rs. 2000 notes in circulation, but the claim made by one of the report has been busted and PIB Fact Check Twitter handle said "RBI has not stopped Rs 2000 note."

And before it the Modi government said there has no decision on discontinuing the printing of Rs. 2000 notes and currently SBI as well as Indian Bank are reconfiguring ATMs for Rs. 200 and Rs. 500 bank notes.

Also Anurag Thakur, Minister of State for Finance, said in a reply to the Lok Sabha "No indent was placed with the presses for printing of Rs 2,000 denomination notes for 2019-20. However, there is no decision to discontinue the printing of Rs 2,000 banknotes."

This was said in a reply to the question as to whether the centre has discontinued printing of Rs. 2000 notes and public sector banks have issued any circular to stop circulation of Rs 2,000 notes through ATMs.
